皆さん、こんにちは。PEOPLISMの世界に足を運んでくださり、ありがとうございます。私事で恐縮ですが、10月10日が誕生日でしたので、こっそりタイトルにしました。年齢はただの数字、というのが個人的な意見ですが、年齢を重ねることは、嬉しい反面、焦りや緊張感を与えてくれます。年に一度しか得られない感覚、大切にしたいと思います。みなさんがご自身の年齢にとらわれずに人生を歩めますように。とらわれてもいいんですけどね。
さて、今回のPEOPLISMですが「ISMの分類」について話をさせてください。昨年度にスタートしたPEOPLISMですが、10名以上がインタビューを快諾してくれました。まだまだ少数ですが、その中で見えてきたものを、この場で共有します。
インタビューの際、私は最初の説明を大切にしています。自分がインタビュー記事を執筆していること。PEOPLISMの語源がPEOPLEとISMを組み合わせた造語であること。「主義」という意味を持つISMは、この場では「こだわり」という意味合いに近いこと。いきなり質問されても、みんな中々思いつかないこと。ゲストには同様の状態で考えて欲しいので、できるだけ説明の内容は統一しています。
そうした説明をした上でインタビューを進めてきましたが、どうやらISMは、現状で大きく2種類「行動的なISM」と「思想的なISM」に分類できるようです。具体例を挙げるとすれば「毎朝10回ヒンズースクワットをする」などは行動的なISM、「紙の本至上主義」などは思想的なISMに分類することができます。
1点断っておくと、この2種のISMの境界線はひどく曖昧です。1つのISMを行動的にも思想的にも捉えられる場合があるからです。境界線が曖昧ということは、2種類以上に分類できる可能性がありますが、現段階で判別できる2種類に焦点を当てさせてください。
実を言うと、当初このPEOPLISMで私が取り上げたかったのは「行動的なISM」なんです。理由はシンプルで、その人の意外だったり、面白かったりする側面が知れそうだから。No.1の記事なんて【morning poop – ism】ですからね。しかし先ほどもお伝えしたように、このISMって曖昧なんです。なぜなら本人が「朝にトイレで大をすること」を願掛けのように行ってるとしたら、それって思想的じゃないですか。
そのことに気がついてから、行動的・思想的問わずに取り上げています。最初はその人っぽいな、と思っても、掘り下げてみると意外なところが見えてくるんです。想定外のエピソードにそのISMの源流があったり、ふざけているようでとてもシリアスな話だったり。
今は既知の友人がほとんどですが、これからは初めましての人にも、ぜひお話を伺っていきたいですね。オチがないこと、謝罪申し上げます。みなさんも、ご自身の行動的なISM、思想的なISMについて考えてみてください。

Hello everyone and thank you for visiting the world of PEOPLISM. I am sorry to be so personal, but October 10 was my birthday, so I secretly made it the title of this article. My personal opinion is that age is just a number, but getting older makes me happy, but also gives me a sense of urgency and tension. It is a feeling that we only get once a year, and I want to cherish it. I wish you all the best in your lives, and I hope that you will be able to live your lives without being obsessed with your own age. It’s okay to be caught up in it, though.
Now, let me talk about “Classification of ISM” in this issue of PEOPLISM. PEOPLISM started last year, and more than 10 people have kindly agreed to be interviewed. Although still a small number, I would like to share with you what we have found in the process.
During the interview, I value the first explanation. That I am the author of the interview. That the word PEOPLISM was coined from a combination of PEOPLE and ISM. That ISM, which means “principle,” is closer to the meaning of “commitment” in this context. That people cannot come up with the question out of the blue. We want our guests to think in a similar state of mind, so we try to keep our explanations as consistent as possible.
It seems that ISM can be classified into two major categories: “behavioral ISM” and “ideological ISM. To give a concrete example, “doing 10 hindu squats every morning” can be categorized as “behavioral ISM”, while “paper book supremacy” can be categorized as “ideological ISM”.
One point I must make is that the boundary between these two types of ISM is terribly blurred, as one ISM can be considered both behavioral and ideological. The blurring of the line between the two types of ISM means that they can be classified into more than two types, but let me focus on the two types that we can identify at this stage.
To tell the truth, what I initially wanted to feature in PEOPLISM was the “behavioral ISM”. The reason is simple, I wanted to learn about unexpected or interesting aspects of a person, and the No. 1 article was [morning poop – ism]. But as I mentioned earlier, ISM is ambiguous. Because if the person himself is doing “pooping in the morning” as if he were making a wish, it is an “ideological ISM”, isn’t it?
Since I realized this, I have taken up the subject regardless of whether it is behavioral or ideological. Even if at first I think it seems like that person, when I dig deeper, I find something unexpected. Sometimes the source of the ISM can be found in an unexpected episode, or a story that seems like a joke but is very serious.
Most of the people I have interviewed so far are known friends, but from now on I would like to talk to people I have never met before. I apologize for the lack of punchline. I encourage everyone to think about their own behavioral ISM and ideological ISM.
