大丸 通世志 / Tsuyoshi Daimaru (occupation : Traveler)

皆さま、こんにちは。今回もPEOPLISMを見に来てくださり、ありがとうございます。今回のPEOPLISMは、大丸通世志さんです。彼のISMは「ROI主義」。「お金という観点だけではなくて、若さや今持っている感情、ある種の無知さとかも含めて今しかできない経験をしようとしてるよ。」とのこと。彼のISMについて、詳しく聞いていきましょう。
Q. 日本語で言えば「投資利益率」という言葉に置き換えられるROIを今回のISMに使用させてもらいました。このISMに至った背景などはあるのでしょうか。
– 「若いって力だな」と思ったのがきっかけかな。今の自分が持っている、この無邪気で馬鹿らしい発想は、大人になってからでは出てこないし、お金では測れないほどの力が若さにはある。おじさんやおじいちゃん、おばあちゃんと話す機会が多くて、彼らの言葉を通して若さの貴重さとかそうしたマインドを学んだよ。
Q. なるほど。私も「若さの持つ力」を肌で感じる機会が多くなりました。個人的には、「年下」世代の存在を明らかに認識したからだと思っています。大丸さんはどうでしょうか。
– 年下の存在よりは、年上からの視点で若さの持つ力を認識したと思う。インターンシップ時代のボスとか、鎌倉に住んでた時に出会ったおっさんたちとか。そんな彼らの視点から今の自分を見ようとしているんだ。自分の未来を異なる人の視点から見て、漠然とその雰囲気とか色とかをイメージしている。そうやって思い描いた未来の自分になるためにどう自分を動かした方がいいか、って考えてるようにしているよ。
Q. 過去や未来、というのがポイントになりそうですね。
– 今の自分は過去と未来の真ん中にいて、でもそれは一直線上じゃない。過去と未来の両極端から来る現在に自分はいて、過去からも未来からも今の自分が作られているってのが考え方なんだ。向かう方向が未来なのは間違いないんだけどね。
Q. 過去が今の自分を形成しているけれど、逆に未来の自分がどうありたいか、ってことも今の自分を形作っているということでしょうか。
– そうだね！学生から社会人まで、素敵な大人と出会うことが多くて、話すと希望が持てる。暖かかったり、安心したり。そんな人たちは、自分くらいの年齢や若さがあるうちに何らかの決断やチャレンジをしていて、彼ら彼女らの言葉や表情にはリアルが詰まっているからこその納得感がある。そうした大人になるために今できることは何だろうって考えたら、自分の中の感情や気持ちを無邪気に踊らせる、そんな経験をしといた方が、自分が大人たちから得たものと全く同じとはいかないけど、次の若い世代に対しても暖かさや安心感のある経験を与えられるのかなって思ってるんだ。
Q. 大丸さんのそうした考え方や姿勢が、昨年からスタートした世界一周という決断にも至ってるんでしょうか。
– 周りからすごいとかかっこいいって言われるのはすごい嬉しいし、元々旅をすることは好きだったけど、昔から世界一周を夢見ていた、というわけではないんだ。でも今自分の持っている若い感性や体力とかを考えると、ずっとオフィスに座っている選択はなかったね。自分1人で何かを決める経験が欲しくて、それに若さを加えてできる最大の貴重な経験は旅をすることかなって思ったんだよね。
最後に大丸さんの最近のイチオシの曲を伺いました。

「宇多田ヒカルの曲は旅に似合うよ。この曲は歌詞が特にいいよね。”楽しいことばかりじゃないけど、嫌なことなんて、いつかまた思い出話する日の花になる迄”とか。当たり前のことなんだけど、それを優しく歌詞にしてくれて、また次に行こうってなれる。」とのことでした。

Hello everyone. Thank you again for coming to check PEOPLISM. This time we did an interview with Tsuyoshi Daimaru. His ISM is “ROI-ISM”. He said, “I try to have experiences that I can only have now, not only in terms of money, but also in terms of youth, feelings I have right now, and a certain kind of ignorance.” Let’s hear more about his ISM.
Q. Do you have any background that led you to this ISM?
– I guess it all started when I thought, “Youth is power”. The innocent and silly ideas that I have now would not have come to me as an adult, and there is a power in youth that cannot be measured by money. I have many opportunities to talk with old men and women, and through their words, I have learned the preciousness of youth and such an attitude.
Q. I see. I too have had many opportunities to experience firsthand the “power of youth. Personally, I think it is because I have clearly recognized the existence of the “younger” generation. How about you, Daimaru-san?
– I think I recognized the power of youth from an older perspective rather than the presence of younger people. Like the boss from my internship days, or the old guys I met when I lived in Kamakura. I’m trying to see myself now from their perspectives. I look at my future from different people’s point of view and vaguely imagine its atmosphere and colors. I try to think about how I should move myself to become the person I want to be in the future.
Q. The past and the future seem to be the key points.
– I am in the middle of the past and the future, but they are not on a straight line. The idea is that I am in the present coming from the extremes of the past and the future, and that the present is created from both the past and the future. The future is definitely where I am headed though.
Q. So the past is shaping the present, but what you want to be in the future is also shaping the present?
– Yes, it does! I often meet wonderful adults, from students to working adults, and talking with them gives me hope. They are warm and reassuring. These people have made some decisions and challenges while they are still young and about my age, and their words and expressions are full of realism, which makes me feel satisfied. When I think about what I can do now to become such an adult, I believe it would be better to have such an experience of letting my emotions and feelings dance innocently, not exactly the same as what I got from the adults, but I think I can give the next younger generation a warm and reassuring experience as well.
Q. Did this attitude and mindset of yours lead to your decision to travel around the world, which you started last year?
– I am very happy when people around me say how great and cool I am, and I have always loved to travel, but it was not always my dream to go around the world. But considering the young sensibility and physical strength I have now, sitting in an office all the time was not an option. I wanted the experience of making decisions on my own, and I thought that traveling would be the most valuable experience I could have with my youth.

“Hikaru Utada’s songs are perfect for traveling. The lyrics are especially good in this song. Like, “It’s not all fun, but the bad stuff will be a flower until one day we’ll talk about memories again.” It’s a natural thing to say, but the lyrics are so sweet that it makes you want to go on to the next one.”
